Frequenty Asked Questions

What is HackRU?

HackRU is 24 hours of inspired, creative, and insanity-fueled learning and creation where you work in teams of 1-4 people to take a crazy idea and turn it into a super real piece of software (or hardware, if you’re into that). Basically, it’s really fun. All the cool kids are doing it.

Do I have to be there the entire time?

Yes – we’re going to sit you down, chain you to your laptop, and force you to code for 24 hours straight. If only.

How do I sign up?

Click on this link and fill out the form! Can’t wait to see you!

Will there be food?

Ha! Will there be food? There will be so much food you won’t know what to do with yourself. If you’re lucky, maybe there’ll even be some leftovers.

I’m a vegetarian. Am I going to starve?

Of course not – the lawn will be open for grazing all weekend. Just kidding. We’ve got you covered with some of the finest vegetarian cuisine this side of the turnpike. And don’t worry, it’s not just salad.

Help! I’m a noob!

Awesome! We absolutely want you to come hang out! We’ll teach you everything you need to know to make something super cool.

Do I have to be Rutgers student?

Not at all! Every single person in the world is welcome to come hack with us (unless you need a visa sponsor). Let’s be friends!

Well gee, Rutgers is kind of far away. Will there be buses?

If you have over twenty hackers coming from your school, contact buses@hackru.org right away so we can dispatch a hacking convoy in your general direction.

I don’t have a team – can I still sign up?

You sure can! We’ll be having friend-making sessions so that you can find yourself some like-minded, inspired people and make something awesome.

So do people like, hack into stuff, at HackRU?

We’re not a security convention, sorry. You might want to check out the NSA for that.
